Prosper Concert Bands
It is the mission of the Prosper High School Band Program to create functionally literate, independent musicians, who continually exhibit the highest level of character as community members and contributors. This education shall take place through traditional concert band classes, as well as through extra-curricular activities such as marching bad, jazz band, small ensembles, solos, All-Region, etc.

WIND ENSEMBLE
The curriculum for the Prosper High School Wind Ensemble class focuses on developing the technical skills needed for performing on brass and woodwind instruments as well as musicianship. The students also learn the music vocabulary used in the Prosper High School Bands. The Wind Ensemble meets second period each semester. In alternation with the Wind Ensemble class, is a technique course called Applied Music. The Wind Ensemble is the flagship instrumental concert organization of Prosper High School. Students in this ensemble display the highest level of musicianship, capable of performing “Masterwork” literature. This ensemble is intended for upperclassmen, most specifically Junior and Senior members. Requirements 1. Students in the Wind Ensemble will prepare and present multiple concerts per year, as notated in the Prosper Band Calendar 2. Students in the Wind Ensemble will participate in before/after school sectionals, as determined by the Directors 3. Students in the Wind Ensemble will prepare the TMEA Region and All-State Materials 4. Students in the Wind Ensemble will participate in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest 5. Students in the Wind Ensemble will prepare a solo or small ensemble Evaluation Everyday is an audition – students will be evaluated daily on their individual musical skills and personal contributions to the ensemble. Formal playing assessments will be held weekly via Google Classroom submissions and/or live playing. AuditionsStudents will audition for the concert ensembles in May of the Spring semester. The audition process includes two etudes, chromatic scale and 12 major scales, 12 natural minor scales, and a brief sight-reading excerpt. All students who audition and fulfill the minimum competencies will become part of the Prosper High School band program. All band students, regardless of concert ensemble assignment, will also participate in the Prosper Mighty Eagle Marching Band. |
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is the second-tier performing ensemble at Prosper High School. Students in this ensemble display a level of musicianship necessary for high achievement in band literature, however may not show the individual musical maturity yet for performing in the Wind Ensemble. This ensemble is intended for upperclassmen and very advanced freshmen. Requirements 1. Students in the Symphonic Band will prepare and present multiple concerts per year, as notated in the Prosper Band Calendar 2. Students in the Symphonic Band will participate in before/after school sectionals, as determined by the Directors 3. Concert Winds
The Concert Winds is the third-tier performing ensemble at Prosper High School. Students in this ensemble display a skill level that is still developing into maturity, showing a need for more individual practice and understanding of key concepts. Evaluation Everyday is an audition – students will be evaluated daily on their individual musical skills and personal contributions to the ensemble. Formal playing assessments will be held weekly via SmartMusic and/or live playing. Auditions Students will audition for the concert ensembles in May of the Spring semester. The audition process includes one required etude, chromatic scale and 12 major scales, and a brief sight-reading excerpt. All students who audition and fulfill the minimum competencies will become part of the Prosper High School band program. Concert Band
The Concert Band is the fourth performing ensemble at Prosper High School. Students in this ensemble are continuing to grow in their musical journey and are placed based on their playing ability as compared to others in the ensemble. Evaluation Everyday is an audition – students will be evaluated daily on their individual musical skills and personal contributions to the ensemble. Formal playing assessments will be held weekly via Google Classroom submissions and/or live playing. Auditions Students will audition for the concert ensembles in May of the Spring semester.
